They finally found love
When they never thought they would
Tragically, society calls it evil
Rather than seeing the good.
Now they have to hide their love
Except with select friends
Because the world outside
Neither flexes nor bends.
This love which should bring joy
Exposes them to ridicule and shame.
They're rejected for following different rules
And playing their own variation on the game.
They hope their love can prevail
Even in the face of adversity.
They may need to go somewhere else
That allows their identity
Why can't we rejoice in love
Even when it fails to follow social norms?
Love always seeks to be boundless
Chafing under the constraints of artificial forms.
